Participants in the uniform condition were instructed to use reappraisal in response to all negative events, whereas those in the context-specific condition were trained to only use reappraisal in contexts they appraised as low in controllability, and to use problem-solving in response to events rated as high in controllability. Reappraisal/problem-solving use in the context-specific condition was manipulated based on the mean controllability appraisal score[ES20.1] (there were six different intervention versions; the mean controllability cut-off points were 35, 45, 60, 65, 75, and 80 (n = 41, n = 23, n = 20, n = 3, n = 3, and n = 2, respectively).
